What’s the Best Time to Post?

Before I go any further, every business is different. What works for one may not be the best for another. Some companies I work with have fantastic engagement at 6:00 am and others at 10:00 pm. Use these stats as a guide as you put together your social media marketing plan.

Facebook has a constantly changing algorithm, a moving target so to speak. According to Hootsuite, the best time to post on Facebook is between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Weekend traffic is generally lower. A few of our international clients have great success posting in the evening on the weekends, so again pay attention to your page insights and your analytics to determine the best time to post for your business.

What you post on Twitter has a pretty short self-life.  Your tweet will reach its maximum success within about 3 hours. Compared to Facebook’s 5-6 hour window, this means you better reach your target audience pretty quickly. Monday through Friday from 3-5 p.m. is prime time on Twitter. Remember your region and time zone when posting to Twitter, as well as the region and time zone of your target audience.

If you are using a scheduling tool such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social they can help you with your “best times” using their queue you can set your posts to go up at the time that should have the best engagement. With anything else in the ever-changing social media landscape, trial and error may be your friend. Use the tools available to you to make the best decisions for your business!
